Weekly Football Updates!

After a crazy night of football on a chilly Friday night, the Meade JV and Varsity Football teams went out on the field and played their hearts out against the North County Knights! In the first game, the JV team played excellent in making plays on both sides of the field outscoring the North County JV team 30-6! At the end of the game, I took some time to interview my friend who is on the JV team that plays safety as his position. My friend Bryten Hileman said that he was “so impressed with how his defense was making stops “and he also liked how the offense was able to score and put points on the board. Unfortunately, I found out that this was his last game he played in the 2022 season. I asked him what he would do moving forward after such a great season. He said that he would continue to keep playing football and join a team in his brand new school that he will move to. It felt so sad to know that he would be moving soon, but he was exceptionally a great friend of mine that I’ll think about everyday when he leaves Meade High School!

Going into the Varsity game, many people including myself were thinking they’re gonna win this game. The atmosphere in the stadium was electric especially when it was on Senior Night! But right out of the gate, the Mustangs struggled in scoring in the first quarter and the defense was unexpectedly giving up huge plays. However in the second quarter, Meade showed that fighting spirit knowing that they have high expectations in winning the game. They went out there in the second quarter and scored a touchdown to tie the game before allowing another touchdown defensively at the end of the first half. It was 13-6 North County coming out of halftime. However the Mustangs really showed their grit and determination in the third quarter! It was a back and forth scoring affair between North County and Meade in the second half when both teams were trying to outscore each other offensively. The third quarter felt like victory is ours when it was 28-20 Meade. Also the home team fans were feeling the energy flowing throughout the stadium.

But going into the fourth quarter, that was when all things came down to the wire! North County scores two big touchdowns to take a 35-28 lead with five minutes left in the game. Then the mood in the stadium felt like everyone was thinking that Meade is going to lose this game. Next thing you know is that we’re down by seven points with five minutes left, and something bizarre happens. The Mustangs were able to move the ball down the field as they converted on a fourth down and long play from their own end and that got them to the other side of the field right at the goal line with the game on the line! Everyone including myself was thinking; “We can tie or win the game!” Unfortunately on the final play of the game, we came up short and there was just the feeling of sadness and frustrations flowing throughout the stadium. But at the end of the day we can live with the results as long as Meade competes, and they did. The Varsity football team will be taking on the North County Knights in a playoff game at Meade High School where these two teams will rematch each other in a crucial game! We look forward to another good game at our football stadium, and it will be another fun Friday night. Go Mustang Nation!
