Taking Pride!

After a rainy cold windy playoff game at Broadneck High School, the Meade Mustangs Varsity Football team could not overcome an injury riddled 4th quarter against the Broadneck Bruins in the second round of the Maryland State HS Football Playoffs. However despite the loss, they showed that fighting spirit in the toughest conditions that any football team has faced throughout the season. More importantly, they showed the willingness to go out there and play and don’t quit.

Coming into the game against Broadneck, the conditions were so rough with the rain and wind combined making it feel like you’re playing a game in the frozen tundra. Right out of the gate in the first half, the Mustangs scored a touchdown before injuries piled up as the game went on. Going into halftime up 7-0, the team knew it was not going to be easy finding a way to win against this tough Broadneck team which had their number in the regular season and it showed in the second half.

In the second half of a pivotal playoff game, Broadneck stormed back by scoring two touchdowns to take the lead, and things were about to go from bad to worse for the Mustangs. After Meade scored a touchdown to make it 14-14 before the end of the third quarter, both of their quarterbacks went down with injuries as well as other starting players on the roster. Then things went downhill for the Mustangs as they made no choice in sending in the JV quarterback and other backup players to replace the starters who were ruled of the game with injuries!

Towards the end of the game in the fourth quarter, the wheels fell off for the mustangs as they proceeded to give up 16 more points which felt like these game looks like it’s over, and it was absolutely the case. The final score was 30-14 Broadneck over Meade after a cold windy rainy night on the road at Broadneck HS. As big supporters and fans of the Mustangs we are all sad that the season has ended, but we have to appreciate and be very proud of what they’ve accomplished this year! Congratulations to the Varsity Football team for making this a great turn around season after a winless season last year.

Now, we look forward to seeing what the Varsity Basketball team has in store coming into this season. They know they have high expectations trying to make it back to the playoffs after a memorable season last year finishing with an undefeated record in the county. Also, we look forward to opening night against North County on December the 9th in the gymnasium! Lets go Mustangs!
