So as we sit here today, the Meade Mustangs Boys Varsity Basketball team is currently (18-3) on the season and in playoff position according to the standings. Everything was going so well for the Mustangs until they took a road trip to take on 2 tough playoff teams in the county after their Senior Night game against Old Mill. They first headed on the road to Broadneck where they struggled to score against a tough Bruins team which is one of the best teams in Anne Arundel County. After that game, they went on down to South River which is also a great basketball team in the county. In a pivotal game against the Seahawks, they were competitive in the first half. But the wheels fell off and the momentum was just not on their side. As a result, they lost the last 2 games and are (18-3) on the year.
Matter of fact, the last 2 games the Mustangs lost were the only losses against the county all season. Tonight’s game against the Chesapeake Cougars is a game that the boys cannot lose. Because there is a scenario in regards to reaching the County Championship. If the Mustangs win tonight, they will clinch the County Championship. Now in order for that to happen, Meade has to play better than what they did over the last 2 games. Most importantly, they have to make their shots on the offensive side of the ball. They’ve had a lot of scoring opportunities but they just couldn’t get anything going. Also on the defensive side of the ball, they have to force turnovers to get more scoring opportunities on both ends of the court.
As of right now, the players have all spoken about making adjustments. They know that they have to play better and execute their style of basketball. The team as a whole has to pull it together to reach the County Championship for the 2nd consecutive year. So there’s a lot at stake tonight for the Mustangs. The season is definitely not over , and all hope is not lost for this team. All they gotta do is make the necessary adjustments. And if they can do that, they will continue reaching new heights heading into the postseason.
The Boys Varsity Basketball team is not the only team representing Meade tonight. Both Girls JV and Varsity Basketball teams are playing tonight going up against Chesapeake on our home court. (aka: The Stable) It’s a special night for both of the Girls teams because it’s Senior Night tonight in Meade. So let’s give both teams a lot of support tonight and wish all the Seniors the best of luck heading towards their future endeavors as they complete their high school journey! Best of luck to all teams tonight, and let’s go Mustangs!
