Remaining optimistic

It has been six weeks since we saw the Meade Varsity Boys Basketball Team play a basketball game. The last time they stepped on the court was March 11th in University of Maryland College Park. The Mustangs were playing against #1 seeded Parkville for the Maryland 4A State Championship trying to claim their 2nd State Championship in school history. To recap the game, it was a close game in the first half when Parkville out scored the Mustangs 21-18 in the first quarter until Meade went into halftime with a 3 point lead by shooting the ball better in the second quarter and outscoring Parkville 11-5 heading into halftime with everything at steak to win a championship.

Going into the third quarter, things really got out of hand for the Mustangs. They were not scoring the ball on both ends of the court, making careless turnovers and got into foul trouble as well in the fourth quarter. As a result, Meade finished the season with a 24-4 record. But they’ve a lot of things this season by winning the county championship against Broadneck, winning the Regional championship against Reservior, making it past the State Final Four after last year’s heartbreaking lost to Winston Churchill and being a runner up for the State Championship.

This team had such a great season. It was definitely heartbreaking that we lost the State championship but we should be proud of what the boys accomplished as the season went on. The atmosphere at University of Maryland College Park was amazing. The cheerleaders and my Pep Band made it much more fun and enjoyable for the whole Meade community. The coaching staff has done an incredible job of pushing the team to the next level to make them perform better everyday and overcome adversity whenever they have any challenges that gotta overcome. Everyone not only in Meade High School but in the Meade Community as well made this season one of the best season’s in Meade High School history.

Now that the season is over, we have to remain optimistic and hopeful for next season. All of our seniors can now look forward to having a bright future in colleges and universities. As for all of our sophomores and juniors, they’re gonna be the ones that are gonna carry the team for next season. As for our loyal fan base, thank you so much for making this season a wonderful ride that we will think about for years to come. We look forward to seeing you next year and for the final time this year, let’s go Mustangs!
